Rail based vegetation management
The foundation of VMS is in the field of Vegetation Management, particularly within the rail sector.
The management team hold in excess of 80 years of experience within the sector bringing vast knowledge and capability when dealing with rail vegetation.
Starting with obtaining a clear understanding of our client’s brief, we then utilise innovative surveying methods to capture the current status of the asset, detail what works and working methods are required to achieve the design, and finally develop a fully detailed and resourced works programme. This is the benchmark to any vegetation management solution
The VMS approach
The above approach enables us to develop work programmes which meet our client requirements and delivery dates. It enables targeted possession planning, allocation of optimum resources to the various work areas as well as tackling problem areas which may need ecological input, Council planning consent or landowner access agreements in advance.
These operatives are put into the field using the best plant and equipment available. This fleet of plant and equipment is again all owned and operated in house, meaning we can allocate it to the jobs where it is needed and our operatives are familiar with the safe operation and optimisation of the various equipment. The fleet includes flails, mulchers, whole tree chippers, MEWPS, Greenmech Safetrak chippers, winches, stump grinders and forestry equipment.
Once underway, our clients receive regular programme updates on progress and outputs as well as daily reports, including real time reporting where circumstances require. This enables a joined up approach between the client and VMS, where problems can be tackled and programmes even accelerated where the need arises.
Our rail management workforce
Having established a works programme, we then turn to our highly skilled and experienced workforce. Unlike many contractors on the railway, the vast majority of our operatives are in house PAYE staff. These staff have been trained and developed over many years, undertaking six monthly training programmes, being part of a mentoring scheme, as well as having the same passion for delivering for our clients.
